From the Editor 05-17

Hello everyone–
It took longer than expected, but we’re back with another issue. Life got in the way of writing and publishing, and all I can say is that I’m trying to get caught up.

We have a fairly substantial issue this time, including concert reviews of the UNC/Greeley Jazz Festival and Kurt Elling/Branford Marsalis, a Retro Review of Mosaic’s Duke Ellington 1932-1940 CBS band recordings, a Book Review of “Conversations with Charlie Haden”, a Sidetracks celebration of Ella Fitzgerald’s 100th birthday (along with coverage of the many Ella tributes and reissues). In our CD Review section, the instrumental side discusses four leader-arrangers who have transformed music of other composers, while our vocal section spotlights three outstanding young singers whose albums find them spreading their (creative) wings.

Jazz History Online’s Facebook page continues to gain members. If you are not yet one of over 1900 fans, please go to www.facebook.com/JazzHistoryOnline and like us! If you’d like a monthly e-mail update of new articles (no, we won’t sell your addresses to anyone else), or would like to communicate with me, please write to [email protected]

Best,

Thomas Cunniffe
